The Senior Companion Program is a unique exchange of service that enhances the lives of both older seniors on a fixed income and seniors needing assistance with daily living. The goal of the program is to help keep the frail, homebound elderly living independently in their homes.

The Frankfort Office of the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center provides crisis counseling as well as hospital and legal advocacy to victims of sexual assault. Crisis counseling for the family and friends of sexual assault survivors is also provided. Speakers are available to discuss rape awareness, risk reduction for rape and sexual abuse of children, acquaintance rape, childhood sexual abuse, the legal and medical aspects of sexual assualt, as well as the social and historical views of rape. Presentations may be tailored to fit the needs of a wide variety of groups, including in-service programs for professionals and classroom presentations.

The SCP serves a dual purpose: to create volunteer opportunities for low-income seniors age 60 and over and to keep frail seniors in their homes, living independently, as long as they possibly can to avoid premature institutionalization. Senior Companions are healthy older adults who offer assistance with grocery shopping and other daily tasks necessary to maintain independence.
