Book Discussion: Friends Disappear – Cancelled

March 30 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join local author and Kentucky State University professor Mary Barr to discuss her book, Friends Disappear. In the book, Barr revisits her old neighborhood in the Chicago suburb of Evanston to offer an insider’s perspective on the social practices that doled out benefits and penalties based on race. She examines racial inequality analyzes how the racial divide limited some young people while providing opportunities for others, despite attempts to integrate that began in the 1960s. The twin narratives of the fate of a group of middle school friends and the social evolution of a community deeply divided by issues of race combine to tell a powerful story.

Reading the book beforehand is encouraged, but not required. Co-sponsored by the Frankfort Anti-Racism Advocates and PSPL.
