An Evening of Poetry from Accents Publishing

Paul Sawyier Public Library, in partnership with Lexington's Accents Publishing, presents an evening of poetry featuring Kentucky authors Greg Pape, Katerina Stoykova, and Frank X Walker. A signing will follow with books available for purchase.

Greg Pape is the author of Four Swans, Animal Time, American Flamingo (Crab Orchard Open Competition Award), Sunflower Facing the Sun (Edwin Ford Piper Prize, now called the Iowa Prize), Storm Pattern, Black Branches, Border Crossings (Pitt Poetry Series), and other books. His work has received the Discovery/The Nation Award, two National Endowment for the Arts Individual Fellowships, the Richard Hugo Memorial Poetry Award, the Pushcart Prize, and other awards. His poems have appeared in The Atlantic, Colorado Review, Cutbank, Field, The Florida Review, Iowa Review, Literary Accents, The Louisville Review, Miramar, The Missouri Review, The New Yorker, Poetry, Kyoto Journal and others. Pape is Professor Emeritus at the University of Montana and former Montana Poet Laureate. He is on the faculty of Spalding University’s Naslund-Mann School of Writing. His new release is A Field of First Things.

Katerina Stoykova is the author of several books, most recently Between a Bird Cage and a Bird House (University Press of Kentucky, 2024) and The Poet's Guide to Publishing: How to Conceive, Arrange, Edit, Publish and Market a Book of Poetry (McFarland, 2024). Katerina is the founder senior editor of Accents Publishing, where she has selected, edited, and published close to 100 poetry collections. Katerina acted in the lead roles for the independent feature films Proud Citizen and Fort Maria, both directed by Thom Southerland. Her poems have been translated into German, Spanish, Ukrainian, Bangla, Farsi, and  The Eight Floor Balcony – a volume of her selected poems translated into Arabic by acclaimed poet Khairi Hamdan, was published by Dar Al Biruni press.

Multidisciplinary artist and educator, Frank X Walker, is the first African American writer to be named Kentucky Poet Laureate. He is the author of the children's book, A is for Affrilachia, and eleven collections of poetry, including Turn Me Loose: The Unghosting of Medgar Evers, which was awarded the NAACP Image Award for Poetry and the Black Caucus American Library Association Honor Award. Voted one of the most creative professors in the south, Walker coined the term "Affrilachia" and co-founded the Affrilachian Poets. He serves as Professor of Creative Writing and African American and Africana Studies at the University of Kentucky. His new release is Love House.
