Program Description

Event Details

Frankfort's Green Hill Cemetery, established in 1865, is home to Kentucky's only monument honoring the nearly 25,000 Kentuckians who served in the United States Colored Troops (USCT) during the Civil War. The Kentucky African American Civil War Memorial features a ten-foot limestone pillar that bears the names of 142 veterans of Kentucky's USCT from Franklin and surrounding counties.

Join Green Hill Cemetery board member Freddie Johnson as he discusses the history of the cemetery as well as his efforts to support its preservation through "Freddie Johnson's Historical Restoration Project". Learn about the progress that has been made and what is still to come in the restoration of this historical landmark.
