Library opening to the public Monday, May 5

The library will reopen for regular operating hours on Monday, May 5. The doors will open at 10 am.

Access for mobility-challenged patrons will be limited. We are asking that these patrons use the ramp at the front of the building. The other entrances will be open, but limited to stairs-only, with no elevator service, until the elevators are repaired. We are still hoping to get one elevator in service early this week.

Most programs scheduled for the week will take place, but please check the library calendar for details.

Parking will be available behind the library and in the parking garage when the elevator is in operation. Wapping Street will still be blocked, so street parking will continue to be very limited.

Program Description

Event Details

We use lights in all different ways at night to be able to live and work, but it has come at a price. When used extensively, without thinking or planning, outdoor lighting can disrupt wildlife, impact human health, waste money and energy, contribute to climate change, and block our view of the universe. Smart lighting that directs light where it is needed creates a balance between safety and starlight.

Together with the Frankfort Audubon Society, middle school science teacher Rachael Peake and students from area schools will present these ideas, provide an update about dark sky initiatives, and show how Frankfort can plan to become a partner in keeping our sky dark.
