Library Closed through Sunday, April 27

The Library will be closed to the public through Sunday, April 27, for flood repair.

We will begin offering curbside pick-up on Wednesday, April 23. This service will be available Wednesday-Friday (10:00am-6:00pm) and Saturday (10:00am-2:00pm). Curbside service will not be available on Sunday.

Patrons may place holds online through their account or by calling the Library at 352-2665 beginning Tuesday, April 22, at 10:00am. Library staff will contact patrons to schedule a pick-up date and time once their items are ready.

Library History Timeline

  • 1906: the Woman’s Club of Frankfort decided that Kentucky’s capital city was in need of a public library
  • 1908: Frankfort’s first public library opened on December 12
  • 1925: plans were made to secure a more permanent home for the public library and the Woman’s Club
  • 1955: bookmobile service begins
  • 1965: bookmobile and library combine as the Paul Sawyier Public Library
  • 1976: Fountain Place location opens
  • 2006: new state-of-the-art building on Wapping Street opens
  • 2018: building expansion
